My name is Sharon Teal-Coray and I
have been in the fine arts field since 1970, when I started studying
painting with oil paints on canvas. I studied every subject possible and
found that my greatest pleasure was painting American Indians and past
civilizations and the scenery and flora of the southwest.
I traveled to the four corners area
and visited the many Indian ruins, talking to the archeologists in the area
learning all I could about the people who lived there and their beautiful
pottery. Wanting to have a “hands on” experience with the pots I painted, I
took a course at the local University on ancient pottery making. We did
everything from finding the clay to firing the pot like the Anasazi did and
I came away from the course with only one pot that didn’t blow up in the
firing and with a great respect and appreciation for the Anasazi of the four
corners region, they were truly great artists of their time!
